STUDY REQUIREMENTS:
- Ages 6-11 with a diagnosis of allergic asthma for at least 1 year.
- Must be using an inhaled steroid such as:
Flovent Pulmicort Qvar Azmacort
- Inadequate asthma symptom control even though using inhaled steroids.
- Has had a history of at least 2 asthma exacerbations during the last year or 3 in the previous 24 months with one during the last year.
- Must not have been treated with an investigational drug within 30 days of the screen visit.
- Must not have had acute sinusitis or a chest infection within 1 month of the screening visit or a viral upper respiratory infection which did not resolve after 7-10 or required treatment with antibiotics within 1 month of the screening visit.
STUDY PROCEDURES:
- Length: Approximately 1 ½ years with 23 office visits.
- Receive the investigational study medication every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks.
- Record asthma symptoms, uses of rescue medication and peak flow readings in a diary twice daily
- The following procedures will be done at various times during the study:
Medical history Physical exam Skin tests Laboratory tests Electrocardiogram Vital signs Lung function tests
- Compensation for time and travel will be given at the end of the study
All study related study medication, office visits, procedures and tests are at no cost.
