RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS:
- Ages 18-55 years with a history of persistent allergic asthma for at least a 1 year.
- Positive skin test to at least 1 of 3 perennial aeroallergens i.e., cat, dog, dust mite, etc.
- Females of childbearing potential must be using a medically accepted means of birth control
- Must not have had an upper respiratory tract infection or sinusitis within the preceding 4 weeks.
- Must not have had an asthma exacerbation with an ER visit or hospitalization in the preceding 6 months.
- Currently a non-smoker for at least 1 year with a history of no more than one pack a day for 10 years.
- Currently in good physical and mental health
RESEARCH PROCEDURES:
- Length: 26 weeks with up to 23 office visits.
- Record asthma symptoms, peak flows, other medications, rescue medication use in a daily diary.
- The following procedures will be done at various times during the study
Medical history Physical exam Lung function test Laboratory tests
Electrocardiogram Skin testing Injections
- Compensation: up to $1,545 for the completion of the entire study.
All study related office visits, procedures, study medication are at no cost to the subject.
